OUR HISTORY

The history of CAPTRUST dates back to 1989 when our co-founder, J. Fielding Miller recognized an unmet need for small to mid-sized companies’ Plan Sponsors to access the same high quality investment resources needed to manage their retirement plan assets. These resources were routinely offered to only larger corporations. As a result CAPTRUST devised an investment-consulting program to bring institutional-quality investment services to these middle market Plan Sponsors.

From the outset CAPTRUST offered consulting solutions to mid-market companies and their executives based on objectivity and independence. From this vision, CAPTRUST Financial Advisors has grown from a fledgling advisory practice into an independently owned, full-service investment advisory firm that has been recognized as an industry leader and lauded for its client service excellence.

We opened our first office, which serves as our Corporate Headquarters, in Raleigh, N.C., in 1989, and over the years our footprint has expanded. In 2002, our second North Carolina office opened in Charlotte, and in 2003, an office in Atlanta opened its doors. Our most recent offices in Richmond and Philadelphia opened in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

In 2003 we established our own Broker Dealer, CapFinancial Partners, LLC (member FINRA/SIPC), doing business as CAPTRUST Financial Advisors. With the addition of the Broker Dealer we were able to continue to expand our suite of services to Plan Sponsors and deliver on our promise to fiduciaries to be completely fee transparent.

In 2005 we launched www.captrustdirect.com an industry leading on-line fiduciary management tool and began to actively solicit other advisors and advisory firms to join CAPTRUST. With our centralized advisor support model in place we have attracted other advisors who share our passion of putting clients first and who are drawn to our vision of building the nation’s most valued advisory firm to mid-market companies and their executives.
